Nocturne from the Fastnet, CorkThe old helipad on Fastnet Rock, roughly eleven miles off the coast of Cape Clear. I made this photograph on a still summer night, the kind where the Atlantic flattens out just enough to let you work with exposures of several minutes. The waves pulling across the rocks below have gone soft and milky, while the lights of Schull and the Mizen Peninsula glow warm along the horizon. Above, the sky is full of stars. There's a faint trace of the Milky Way
