James Bone "Leaves & Profiles & Bugs" 2010 Mixed Media DrawingJames Frederic Bone (1929 2015), a prolific and perpetually curious, inventive Chicago artist, did a series of drawings late in life of floating forms composed of faces in profile, which I find simultaneously playful and poignant. Here the double portraits assume the form of leaves, some detailed with veins that simultaneously read as whisps of hair framing each face, and all arranged in rows surrounded by shading in autumnal shades of burnt orange
