Rock Patterns II, SvalbardLayered sedimentary rock on the shoreline in Svalbard, photographed close enough to lose all sense of scale. The strata run diagonally across the frame, thin sheets of stone peeling apart where frost and time have worked at them for thousands of years. There are distinct colour bands through the face, grey and ochre and a darker iron rich seam that cuts through the middle. Flat, diffused light was exactly what this needed.
